Press of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada (UWAC) and the Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada (UWOC) as an Expressor of National Tasks of Women in Emigration: First Steps

Abstract


The purpose of the study is to clarify, systematize and introduce into scientific circulation factual material on the information and publishing activities of the Ukrainian Society of Ukrainian Emigration before and after World War II, their impact on social processes in the female environment of Ukrainian emigration in Canada.

The methodological basis of the study is the principles of historicism, comprehensiveness, objectivity, and reliability. The study is based on informational, axiological, cultural, and systemic approaches. The following general scientific methods were used: analysis, synthesis, and generalization. Comparative, descriptive, and problem-chronological methods, as well as cause-and-effect analysis, were used to solve the research tasks.

Results. The prerequisites for the formation of the Ukrainian Society of Ukrainian Emigration and Ukrainian Emigration are outlined. The socio-political and ideological conditions of the information activities of the Ukrainian Society of Ukrainian Emigration and Ukrainian Emigration are clarified. The main directions of the information activities of the Ukrainian Society of Ukrainian Emigration and Ukrainian Emigration, their similarities and differences are determined.

The scientific novelty lies in the reproduction of the information activities of the Ukrainian Journalism and the Ukrainian Press in the interwar and postwar period in Canada, the structure and ideological and thematic component of the publications of the Ukrainian Journalism and the Ukrainian Press have been analyzed. Sources that have not yet been the subject of scientific analysis have been introduced into circulation, and some dates have been clarified.

Practical significance. The results of the study can be used in the process of studying the courses «History of Ukrainian Journalism» and «History of Publishing».
